In harsh environments, ignition sources can trigger the combustion of flammable gases, vapors, or dust. In order to achieve this, explosion-proof enclosures are designed to produce a temperature that is below what is required to ignite gas or dust in the surrounding environment. They also contain the initial overpressure from internal ignition and panels should have flame paths to allow expanded gas to escape.

All of them come equipped with hinges, stainless steel quad lead cover bolts that are secured by Nema 4 gaskets.
